Family background

George Henry Wright was born about 1838 to Joseph and Elizabeth Wright. He died at his family home on Rochford Street on 2 March 1901, his widow Elizabeth and seven children survived him. He was buried at Rookwood.

Occupation & interests

Wright was a hotelkeeper who owned and was the publican at the Imperial Hotel, Erskineville Road. He later let the hotel to other publicans and still owned it when he died. He also owned vacant land at Fairfield and on the Great Western Highway near Penrith.

Community activity

Wright was a member of the Ancient Order of Foresters, Court Old England.

Local government service

George Henry Wright was an alderman on Macdonaldtown (Erskineville) in 1881-84.
