Family background

Henry Knight junior (Jnr) claimed to have been born in Macdonaldtown in 1848. His father was Henry Knight Snr, who was also alderman on Macdonaldtown Council, as well as Newtown Council. Knight Jnr married Mary Jane Hallett in 1870 and had three children by 1888. He died at his residence ‘Knightsbridge’, 3 Collins Street, Annandale on 30 October 1913.

Occupation & interests

Henry Knight Jnr owned six houses in Macdonaldtown by 1888. He was a postmaster from 1872 to 1887, becoming a letter carrier in 1888. By 1890, he was a grocer.

Local government service

Henry Knight Jnr was an alderman on Macdonaldtown (Erskineville) Council in 1880-82 and 1888-89. His father, also named Henry, was a foundation alderman on Erskineville Council in 1872, and its first mayor.
