Family background

James Andrew Lynch was married Alice Mary Higgins in Gundagai in 1905. She died on 9 August 1942 only weeks before him. They had seven children, one of whom predeceased them.

Community activity

James Lynch was a member of the Hibernian Australasian Catholic Benefit Society, St Joseph’s Newtown Branch. He was a very active member of the St Josephs Catholic Church, and a supporter and donor to the foundation of the St Josephs Boys School.

Local government service

James Lynch was an alderman on Newtown Council in 1941-42, representing Enmore Ward. He was deputy mayor in 1942. He died in office.
