Family background

James Wilcox was born c1790. He lived in Botany Road, Redfern and died here on 12 March 1876, aged 85 years and he was buried at Rookwood Cemetery. He was married to Jane Colless (1808-62) on 17 September 1827 at Castlereagh, NSW and they had 4 sons and 4 daughters.

Occupation & interests

Wilcox was a draper. In 1861 Wilcox was secretary of the Ancient Order of Royal Foresters.

Local government service

James Wilcox was an alderman on Waterloo Council in 1867-69 representing North Ward. He was mayor in 1869. Wilcox was the Chairman of the Finance Committee and for three years he was one of the auditors for Waterloo Council.
