Family background

John Hardman was born about 1831. A John and Ann Hardman arrived in NSW on the ‘Admiral Lyons’ in 1858.  A number of children were born to the couple in NSW. Hardman died at his home at 42 George Street, Macdonaldtown on 17 June 1893.

Community activity

John Hardman was a Roman Catholic who sent his children to Catholic schools. His son Richard, a pupil at the Sydney College of the Society of Jesus died in April 1883.

Local government service

John Hardman was an alderman on Macdonaldtown (Erskineville) Council in 1874-80.
