Family background
John Lee, was born to John and Mary Lee in about 1855. He married Margaret O’Brien in 1902. They lived at 155 Railway Parade. John Lee died at his home at the corner of Park Street and Railway Parade, Erskineville on 19 February 1920. He was buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery, Rookwood.
Occupation & interests
In July 1905, John Lee, grocer of Erskineville bought the shop he was already occupying, plus adjoining land in what was originally called Erskineville Road but was later renamed as Railway Parade. In April 1915, he was fined for selling milk diluted with water.
Community activity
John Lee was appointed a trustee of Erskineville Park in February 1914. He was also the President of the Surrey Cricket Club.
Local government service
John Lee was an alderman on Erskineville Council in 1914-16., representing North Ward.
