Family background

John Sanbrook was born in Bristol, England, on 8 May 1824. He was married in Bristol to Lydia Rose (1823-1906). They had four daughters and three sons. He arrived in Sydney about 1850. He died in Sydney on 4 December 1915.

Occupation & interests

Sanbrook & Son, building contractors, of Camperdown were busy tendering for work in suburban Sydney. They built Glebe Town Hall, a tender of 4,444 pounds in 1879-80 and Canterbury Post Office (1908).

Local government service

John Sanbrook was an alderman on Camperdown Council in 1874-75.
