Family background

Nicholas Stanislaus McGuinness was born in New Zealand in 1879 to John and Mary McGuinness. His parents had married at Wellington, New Zealand on 4 May 1878. On 29 April 1911, McGuinness married Mary Gertrude Reddan at Camperdown. There were no children. His wife died on 15 September 1945. McGuinness and his wife lived at 9 Charles Street, Erskineville in 1935 but had moved to 2 Silver Street, St Peters by 1939. McGuinness died on 14 October 1949 at Lidcombe and was buried in the Roman Catholic cemetery, Rookwood.

Local government service

Nicholas McGuinness was an alderman on Erskineville Council in 1935-46. He was mayor in 1938.
