Robert Campbell was an alderman on Paddington Council in 1866-71. On 15 March 1870, Robert Campbell was elected mayor to replace John Humphrey. On 5 December 1871, Campbell resigned as mayor and from the council. His son, Robert Campbell Junior, was an alderman on Balmain Council.
