Family background

Robert Thomson was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1831. He was married on 15 March 1853 at the Scots Church Sydney to Margaret Murchie (1831-1877). They had seven daughters and three sons. He died on 5 December 1894, aged 63 years.

Local government service

Robert Thomson was an alderman on Camperdown Council from 1875 to 1886 and mayor in 1882-84. Thomson as mayor in 1882 led a deputation to the Minister for a recreation ground at Camperdown. Camperdown Park was gazetted in 1885.
