Family background
William Tye arrived in Sydney aged 12 with his family on the Cornwall in September 1839. His brother was Alfred Tye who served on Glebe Council. His son was Thomas Tye, also an alderman on Newtown Council.
Occupation & interests
William Tye was a pigeon fancier who won prizes for his fantails in the NSW Pigeon, Canary and Poultry Society Show in 1879.
Community activity
William Tye was involved in the local Wesleyan Church, was a Master Mason of Lodge 1169 EC and a chairman of the Master Butcher’s Association.
Local government service
William Tye was an alderman on Newtown Council in 1878-82, representing Enmore Ward.
