Family background

Alfred William Bull was born in Barking, Essex, England in c1865, son of Charles Bull and Martha Fisher. He arrived in Sydney on the vessel ’Aberdeen’ on 27 November 1883. On 29 March 1887 Bullmarried Julia Conway (1864-1951) at St Mathias’ Church, Paddington, NSW. There were eight children (2 sons and 6 daughters) from this marriage. Alfred William Bull died on 23 April 1953 at his residence, 56 Holmwood Street, Newtown, aged 87 years. He was buried in the Roman Catholic Section at Rookwood Cemetery.

Occupation & interests

A Labor alderman, Bull worked as a bread carter and had strong links with the union movement. Official Labor, of which he was a member, was socially conservative and anti-communist.

Local government service

Alfred William Bull was an alderman on Waterloo Council in 1945-47.
