Family background

David Moon was born on 16 February 1827 in Sandhurst, East Sussex, England, son of Jesse (John) Moon and Ann Ralph.  He immigrated to Sydney, Australia, with his parents and siblings, arriving on 17 March 1839 by the vessel ’Prince Regent’. He married Lucy Taylor (1816-1896) on 30 December 1852 at the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Sydney and they had 3 sons and 3 daughters. David Moon died on 15 December 1864 at his residence in George Street, Waterloo, NSW, aged 37 years. He left a Will and his estate and assets were assessed at £1,200. His brothers Thomas Moon and William Moon were also aldermen on Waterloo Council.
