Family background

Henry Benjamin Benson was born c1861, son of Nathan Benson and Hannah. He married Mary MacMillan in Woollahra in 1924 and they had three children, Irene, Pat & David. He died at his residence in Rose Bay on 17 March 1939 and was cremated at Northern Suburbs Crematorium. He left a Will and his estate and assets were assessed at £33,180.

Occupation & interests

Benson was the licensee of the ’Zetland Hotel’, Bourke Street, Waterloo. Before moving to Waterloo, Benson worked as a tobacconist in King Street, Sydney and as licensee of the Supreme Court Hotel in Sydney.

Local government service

Henry Benjamin Benson was elected 21 June 1913 following the resignation of Alderman Thomas Ross. He represented South Ward.
