Family background

The 1913 Electoral roll showed James Higgins, potter, lived at 109A Erskineville Road with his wife Mary Josephine Higgins. He appears to have married her in 1911 at Newtown. In 1926, he moved to Cumberland Avenue, Merrylands.

Occupation & interests

James Higgins was a member of the Erskineville branch of the Catholic Federation. In 1926, he was secretary of the St Mary’s, Erskineville branch of the Catholic AHC Guild.

Local government service

James Higgins was an alderman on Erskineville Council in 1917-26, representing Middle Ward. He was mayor in 1921.
