James Leslie McMahon was born on 26 February 1930. He may have been the son of James Leslie McMahon (d.1959, age 63) and his wife Dulcie Irene who died on 22 October 1969, aged 69.

Occupation & interests

James Leslie McMahon was apprenticed as a plumber. He was a member of the Plumbers’ Union and became a union organiser.

Parliamentary service

James Leslie McMahon was elected to the House of Representatives as the ALP Member for Sydney on 13 December 1975. He retired on 4 February 1983.

Local government service

James Leslie McMahon was elected Alderman for Phillip Ward on 29 July 1967 following the death in office of Alderman Desmond John Booler. He served until 13 November 1967 when the Council was replaced by City Commissioners. He was a member of the Works Committee and the Health and Recreations Committee in 1967.
