Family background

John Henry Beverley was born 29 November 1860 in Howden, Yorkshire, England, the son of Jane Beverley. He married Mary Welsh (1860-1952) at Howden, Yorkshire in 1882 and they had three boys and two daughters. Beverley and his wife immigrated to Sydney, NSW, in 1883 on board the ship ‘Allanshaw’. He died on 25 May 1951, aged 90 years, late of Eastwood, and was interred in the Methodist Section of Northern Suburbs Cemetery. He left a Will and his estate and assets were valued at £5,099. Beverley lived at Rose Street, Darlington.

Local government service

John Henry Beverley was an alderman on Darlington Council in 1888-90, and the Returning Officer for Darlington in 1898. He was an alderman on Marsfield Council 1897-1900.
