Family background

Joseph Pavey was born on 1 April 1911 at Glebe, NSW, the son of Arthur Albert Pavey and Catherine Donnelly.

Pavey lived at 25 Thomas Street, Redfern. He died on 26 June 2004, aged 93 years, at Sydney and was buried in the Roman Catholic Section at Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park.

Occupation & interests

A life long resident of Redfern, Joseph Pavey worked as a bookbinder and stood for council as a non-Labor representative.

On 12 October 1942 Pavey enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force. He did not see active service overseas and was discharged as medically unfit for further military service in December 1942.

Local government service

Joseph Pavey was an alderman on Redfern Council, representing Golden Grove Ward, in 1937-41.
