Thomas Hinds was born in c1842 at County Cavan, Ireland. He was married in 1869 at Maitland to Matilda J Watson (1840-1930). He died on 13 July 1875, aged 33 years.

Local government service

Thomas Hinds was an alderman on Cook Council, 1868-69 and Camperdown, 1870-73. He was the Mayor of Camperdown, 1872-73.

Hinds, as mayor of Camperdown, presided over the opening on 15 October 1872 of Camperdown Free Library in Parramatta Road by Henry Parkes. The library and reading room contained 458 books, bequeathed from Camperdown’s defunct School of Arts.
