Family background

William England was born c1846 at Visby, Gottland, Sweden, the son of John England and his wife Christina Maria. He arrived at Sydney, NSW, 30 March 1867 by the ship ‘City of Melbourne’. He married Ann Maskelyne (1852-1927) 10 December 1884 at Smithfield, NSW, and they had a son and a daughter. William England died 4 January 1924, aged 78 years, at his son’s residence at Oatley, NSW. He was found dead in his bed at his son’s residence. A coroner’s inquest found that death was accidental and probably caused by gas poisoning. England was interred in the Church of England Section of Rookwood Cemetery. He left a Will. William England lived at 5 Alma Street, Darlington.

Local government service

William England was an alderman on Darlington Council in 1890-92. He was also the Council Auditor 1887-90.
