Family background

George Gillespie was born 23 September 1861 at Ballarat, Victoria, the son of Archibald Gillespie and Margaret Monroe. He married Alice Hampshire (1865-1952) on 30 September 1886 at Redfern, NSW, and they had three sons and two daughters. George Gillespie died at Lidcombe State Hospital on 30 June 1932 aged 70 years; he was buried at Botany Cemetery in the Presbyterian section. He left no Will. George Gillespie lived at 187 Victoria Street, Alexandria.
