Family background

Hugh Vincent McConville was born 18 July 1898 at Waterloo, NSW, the son of Alexander McConville and wife Rebecca. He married Mary Kaveneh (1906-91) on 23 May 1929 at Redfern, NSW, and they had one son and two daughters. McConville died at Randwick, NSW, on 9 January 1993, aged 94 years; and was buried at Rookwood Cemetery in the Catholic section. He lived at 48 Victoria Street, Alexandria.

Occupation & interests

As a Labor representative on Alexandria Council, McConville was explicitly anti-Communist, socially conservative with close links with the trade union movement.

Local government service

Hugh McConville was an alderman on the Alexandria Council 1938-48 representing the Beaconsfield Ward. He served as mayor in 1944.
