Family background

John McGree was born about 1892 in County Kilkenny, Ireland. In 1930 at Paddington, he married Annie F (b.1901), the daughter of Matthew and Annie Seery. He died on 7 January 1953, aged 61, survived by his wife. He was buried in the Catholic Section of Botany Cemetery.

Occupation & interests

John McGree was an architect. His name appears on plans for a proposed first floor at the Thurless Castle Hotel, Cleveland Street, Chippendale, in January 1907. In 1919 his address was the Golden Lion Hotel at 99 Devonshire Street. In 1930 John McGree was living at 116 Roscoe Street, Bondi.

Local government service

John McGree was Alderman for Pyrmont Ward, 2 December 1912 to 1 December 1918. He was a member of the Works Committee in 1913, the Electric Lighting Committee, 1914-18 and the Health and By-Laws Committee, 1913-18.
