Family background

Samuel Alexander McCauley was born on 11 August 1867 at Wollongong, NSW, the son of William McCauley and Agnes Johnstone. He married Kate MacLoughlin on 9 June 1891 at Sydney, NSW, and they had one son and six daughters. McCauley died at Kogarah, NSW on 3 September 1927, aged 59 years; he was buried at Woronora Cemetery in the Presbyterian section. He left a Will and his estate and assets were assessed at £52. McCauley lived in Wyndham Street, Alexandria.

Occupation & interests

Samuel McCauley was a Freemason and a member of the Royal Oak Lodge.

Community activity

Samuel McCauley was a Justice of the Peace (JP). He was also a Trustee of Erskineville Park.

Local government service

Samuel McCauley was an alderman on the Alexandria Council for two terms representing the East Ward: 1903-12 and 1914-16. He served as mayor in 1906-11.
