Family background

Sydney Edgar Wood was born on 18 December 1871 at Waterloo, NSW, the son of George Edward Wood and Sarah Thomson. He married (1) Eliza Fay (1873-1913) on 21 September 1894 at Sydney, and they had four sons and four daughters. He married (2) Minetta May McMurray on 19 October 1914 at Sydney, and they had one son. Sydney Edgar Wood died at Woy Woy, NSW on 22 October 1916, aged 44 years. He left a Will and his estate and assets were assessed at £3,089. Sydney Edgar Wood lived at 78 Botany Road, Alexandria.

Occupation & interests

Sydney Edgar Wood was the licensee of the “Star” hotel at 78 Botany Road, Alexandria 1896-1915. The office of alderman of Alexandria conferred status and power on the local publican.
