Family background

Thomas Crane was born c1826 in Bletchley, Buckinghamshire, England, son of Thomas Crane and Martha Needham. He married Elizabeth Charlesworth (1831-1901) in 1851 in Leicester, Leicestershire, England. There were 5 sons and 5 daughters. Thomas Crane and his wife and one child arrived in Sydney on 16 March 1855 by the vessel ’Nepaul’.  Crane died on 2 June 1890 at his residence Watkin Street, Newtown, NSW, aged 65 years. He was buried in the Old Church of England Section at Rookwood Cemetery where his wife is also buried. Thomas Crane lived in Wellington Street, Waterloo in c1877.
