Family background

Thomas Probert was married in 1873 to Sydney Mary Pryke (1840-1921). They had four daughters and two sons. He died on 6 September 1922.

Parliamentary service

Probert stood unsuccessfully as Liberal candidate for Newtown in 1901.

Local government service

Thomas Probert was an alderman on Camperdown Council for two terms in 1888-89 and 1891-1908. He was mayor in 1899-1901. Probert as mayor in 1900 directed house to house inspections in Camperdown. regarding the bubonic plague. He complained in council in 1902 that larrikins gathered in local back-lanes on Sunday mornings to play two-up, dispersing when police arrived.
