Family background

Thomas Wood was born c1833 in England, the son of Thomas Wood and Mary Powell. He immigrated to Australia on board the ship “David McIver” which arrived at Sydney 24 September 1858. He married Mary Connelly (1838-1901) at Sydney on 27 November 1860 and they had three sons and a daughter. Thomas Wood died at Sydney on 28 June 1913, aged 80 years; he was buried at Rookwood Cemetery in the Old Catholic Mortuary 1. Thomas Wood lived in Gerrard Street, Alexandria.

Thomas Wood was a gardener and dairyman. He was a Freemason and a member of the Loyal Eureka Lodge and was involved in the social and political life of the municipality..

Thomas Wood was an alderman on Alexandria Council 1878-83 representing the West Ward.
