Family background

George Edward Rowson(or Rawson) Lingard was born on 18 May 1815 at Millgate, Lancashire, England, son of Roger Rowson Lingard and his wife Magretta Christiana Platt, ne? Turner. Note that genealogical details are speculative and require further research for confirmation. He may have married Mary Etchells (d.1886) on 9 March 1858. Births are recorded for sons of George and Mary Lingard in Sydney, Roger R. (b.1842) and Alexander R. (b.1844), but these have not been confirmed. A George Lingard died at Balmain North in 1898, parents James and Elizabeth, but this person was christened at Grimsby, Lincoln, England, on 8 July 1829 and may be too young to be the relevant alderman.
