Family background

Gilbert MacArthur was born in 1832 in Scotland. He was married in 1869 in Sydney to Louisa Owen (1847-1911). They had six sons and three daughters. He died on 29 July 1899, aged 67 years.

Occupation & interests

MacArthur arrived in Sydney in 1838 with his Scottish parents. The pottery works he operated at Camperdown on Parramatta Road was in operationĀ from 1867 to 1899; he also lived on site at the pottery works. It was Clyde Pottery RoadĀ  after his birthplace in Scotland.

Local government service

Gilbert MacArthur was an alderman on Camperdown Council in 1896-98.
