Family background

Joseph Bede Lynch was born on 27 December 1881 in Woolloomooloo, NSW, son of Joseph Bede Lynch and Mary Jane Lupton. He married Alice Anne Darcy on 8 January 1915 in Paddington, NSW; there were 2 daughters. Joseph Bede Lynch died on 11 May 1953 at his residence 27 Dalmeny Avenue, Rosebery, NSW, aged 71 years and he was buried in the Roman Catholic Section of Rookwood Cemetery. He lived at 27 Palmer Street, Rosebery (1930).

Occupation & interests

Lynch was preselected as a Labor candidate for Waterloo. There was little difference between Official Labor and Lang Labor. Both were explicitly anti-conservative and with strong links with the union movement.

Local government service

Joseph Bede Lynch was an alderman on Waterloo Council for two terms, in 1923-37 and 1942-44.He was mayor in 1929 and 1934-36.
