Family background

Leslie Ernest Best was born 3 July 1891 at Newtown, NSW, the son of William Best and his wife Maria Ann Moody. He married Eva Florence Markham (1893-1972) 7 December 1917 at Marrickville, NSW, and they had one son. Leslie Ernest Best died 20 March 1957 at his residence, 69 Livingstone Road, Petersham; he was cremated at Northern Suburbs Crematorium. Leslie Ernest Best lived at 69 Livingston Road, Lewisham.

Occupation & interests

Leslie Ernest Best owned the business, Best & Company, Timber Merchants, 45 City Road, Darlington after dissolving a partnership in 1919 with Alexander Boyd in the same business.

Local government service

Leslie Best was an alderman on Darlington Council in 1935-46 representing the South Ward. His father William and brother George were also aldermen on Darlington Council.
