She later ran her own training business and worked as a counsellor / psychotherapist. She has diplomas in conflict management, psychology and business coaching. She is also a professional speaker and a campaign strategist.
She believes in community participation in government, and has actively promoted the concept of shared obligation and socially responsible behaviour. Marcelle is a strong believer (and advocate for) the protection of public lands.
Community activity
Marcelle Hoff was President of the Friends of Pyrmont Point community group and campaigned against the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority’s planned development of publicly-owned waterfront land at Pyrmont Park. She is a Justice of the Peace.
She was a foster parent with Barnardos from 1987 to 1998, during which time she provided professional foster parenting for 18 children.
Local government service
Marcelle Hoff came into politics due to her involvement in a campaign to save the Water Police site in Pyrmont, the site of today’s Pirrama Park. She served as a Councillor on the City of Sydney Council from March 2004 until September 2012, which included two years as Deputy Lord Mayor. She never belonged to a political party, preferring to remain as a true independent.
Marcelle was the Deputy Chair of the Cultural and Community Services Committee, a member of the Community Consultation Committee for the Sydney Medically Supervised Injecting Centre, and a Trustee with the Clover Moore MP Salary Trust. She was also the Lord Mayor’s alternate on various boards, including Sydney Festival and Biennale of Sydney
