Family background
Rowland Jordan Gore Armstrong was born at Bega, NSW, in 1893, the son of Arthur T H and Mary A Pittar. In 1926 at Newcastle, he married Doris L Hinton. He died on 30 July 1965.
Occupation & interests
Rowland Pittar was an ophthalmic surgeon. In 1930 he was practising at 17 Bolton Street, Newcastle. In 1933 he applied to join the Australian Army Medical Corps.
Local government service
Dr Rowland Pittar was Alderman for Fitzroy Ward, 26 November 1949 to 4 December 1953. Pittar was a member of the Works Committee and the Health and Recreations Committee from 1949 to 1953.
