Family background

Samuel Marsden was born on 4 May 1848 in Windsor, NSW, son of Thomas Wright Marsden and Mary Ann Markwell. He married Catherine Elisha de Low (1850-1931) on 11 June 1874 in Sydney, NSW. Samuel Marsden died suddenly on 29 May 1907 in Parramatta, NSW, aged 58 years and he was buried in the Church of England Section of Rookwood Cemetery. He left a Will and his estate and assets were assessed at £165.Samuel Marsden lived at 28 Elizabeth Street, Waterloo (1877).

A death notice indicates Marsden was formerly of 756 George Street, Sydney (Graham, Vaughan and Marsden). He was a draper and storekeeper.

Community activity

As an alderman, Marsden was present at the laying of the foundation of Waterloo Town Hall on 20 August 1881. Two thousand people attended the ceremony.
