Family background
Alfred Wadmore Fallick was born in c1835, possibly in Clonmel, Ireland. According to his death certificate, he was the son of Charles Major Fallick (1810-76) and Eliza Ann Strickland. His father was from the Isle of Wight, England, and worked as a warden at Goulburn Gaol after the family’s move to the colony.
Alfred W. Fallick married Susannah E. Walker in 1860, and they lived at Blandford House, Newtown, with their growing family. Susannah had another son in September 1876, at their residence, ‘Harcourt Villa’, Baltic Street, Newtown. She died only one year later, in November 1877, and Fallick married Rebecca Wood in 1878 in Goulburn. They were living at Charles Street in Petersham at the time of his death on 7 June 1879, at the age of 44. He was survived by several children.
His brother John Frederick was an alderman on Erskineville Council. He was recorded as one of the Executor of A. F. Fallick’s will. A possible relative, James Fallick, served on Newtown Council from 1902-03, and another relative, Henry Fallick, was on Kogarah Council from 1913-22.

Community activity
Alfred W. Fallick was involved in the Newtown Wesleyan Church and served as secretary of the Australasian Wesleyan Methodist Missionary Society, Newtown. He was also honorary secretary of the Newtown Young Men’s Mutual Improvement Association.
Local government service
Alfred W. Fallick was an alderman on Newtown Council in 1873-78, representing Kingston Ward. He was Mayor in 1878. Prior to being elected as alderman, he was also a co-auditor in 1866-69. Later he served on the Finance Committee with Robert Henderson and also on the Works Committee. In 1877, he became treasurer. Fallick retired due to ill health on 14 January 1879.
