Family background
Cornelius Hogan was born c1875, the son of Daniel Hogan and Mary Anne Fraser. He married Catherine Carter (1886-1954) at Sydney on 8 February 1910 and they had 3 sons. He lived at 56 Abercrombie Street, Redfern. Hogan died 5 August 1933 at his home in St John’s Park, NSW, and was buried in the Roman Catholic Section of Rookwood Cemetery. He left a will and his estate and assets were assessed at £275.
Occupation & interests
Cornelius Hogan was an organiser for the Australian Workers’ Union (AWU) in his earlier life, and took an active part in the anti-conscription campaign. At one time he stood as a candidate for the Gloucester seat in the Labor interests in 1910. He joined the United Labourers Union in 1900, and became president in the same year. Later he was elected a delegate to the 8-Hour committee, the Sydney Labor Council, and the ALP Conference, a position he held for nine consecutive years. He contested the Goulburn seat in 1917.

Cornelius Hogan was a justice of the peace (JP).
Local government service
Cornelius Hogan was an alderman on Redfern Council, representing Golden Grove Ward from 1911-17.
