Ernest Gerard Wright was born on 10 July 1907. He lived at 85 Wellington Street, Newtown. He died 16 January 1981.

Occupation & interests

Wright had served as organising secretary of the NSW branch of the Australian Labor Party from to 1940 to 1950, and as general secretary in 1950-52. Between 1945 and 1963, he was a member of the Aborigines Welfare Board.

Parliamentary service

Wright was a member of the NSW Legislative Council in 1943-73, and Chairman of Committees in 1953-67.

Local government service

Ernest Gerard Wright MLC was the mayor of the Municipality of Newtown in 1948, the year prior to its amalgamation with the City of Sydney. He succeeded Reuben Goddard, who died in office in July 1948.
