Family background

Frederick William Hughes was born on 10 November 1867 in Queensland, son of Henry Benjamin Hughes and Sarah McLaren. He married Dinah Matilda Morris (nee Hawthorn) (1867-1933) on 7 September 1898 in Sydney, NSW. Frederick William Hughes died on 18 August 1950 at his residence in McEvoy Street, Waterloo, aged 80 years. Privately cremated. He lived at McEvoy Street, Waterloo.

Occupation & interests

Hughes was the chairman of directors of F W Hughes Pty Ltd and several subsidiary companies (Alexandria Spinning Mills Ltd). F W. Hughes Pty Ltd was established in 1915. The company carried out many activities in the area of wool textiles.

Local government service

Frederick William Hughes was an alderman on Waterloo Council in 1895-96. He resigned in February 1897.
