James Yeoman was born in Cantebury, Kent, on 9 August 1835. He was married on 10 April 1860 at Surrey, England, to Mary Ann Brewer (1814-1902). He died on 11 January 1912, aged 77 years.

Yeoman moved the Sydney United Omnibus Co be requested to run their coaches through Camperdown to connect with the Newtown line and starting every 10 minutes.
