Family background
John O’Riordan was born 3 January 1887 at Sydney, the son of Michael O’Riordan and Julia Ellen Clifford. He married Cecilia Agatha Kelly (1887-1970) on 18 June 1917 at Sydney and they had four children. He died at Sydney on 24 December 1965, aged 78 years; he was buried at Waverley Cemetery. O’Riordan lived in Avoca Street, Randwick.
Occupation & interests
At a young age John O’Riordan was introduced to his father Michael’s boiling down works at Alexandria. Starting as a factory hand, John worked his way up through the business. He worked very long hours, through various sections of the business and finished up controlling the firm at the age of 25 years.
Local government service
John O’Riordan was an alderman on Alexandria Council 1920-22 representing the Beaconsfield Ward. His father Michael was an alderman and mayor on the same council.
