Family background

John Paul was born c1841 in Thetford, Norfolk, England, son of William Paul and Clementina Watson. He arrived in Sydney, with his parents and siblings, on 9 April 1855 by the vessel ’Speedy’. He married Mary Helen Fisher (1841-1924) on 10 February 1872 at the Church of St Silas, Waterloo; they had 2 sons and 1 daughter. John Paul died on 9 September 1900 at his residence ’Thetford’ Botany Road, Waterloo, aged 59 years and he was buried in the Presbyterian Section of Botany Cemetery. He lived in Botany Road, Waterloo (1876).

Occupation & interests

John Paul, potter and drain pipe manufacturer, was declared bankrupt on 25 January 1895.

Community activity

John Paul was a Freemason and member of Lodge Redfern No 82 UGL of NSW.

Local government service

John Paul was an alderman on Waterloo Council in 1875-77.
