Family background

Joseph Horsfall was originally from Yorkshire. He married Mary Clissold in 1860 and the couple had eleven children. He died 3 June 1885 at St Marys, and was buried in the Anglican cemetery, South Creek. His estate was probated at £4,200.

Occupation & interests

Joseph Horsfall lived in Macdonaldtown from 1859 onwards. His residence was on Swanson Street.

Honours & awards

Joseph Horsfall was presented with an illuminated address at banquet in his honour on 15 October 1883.

Local government service

Joseph Horsfall was an alderman on Macdonaldtown (Erskineville) Council in 1873-84. He was mayor in 1879-81 and 1883-4.
