Family background

Kenneth John Alexander Macrae was born on 21 December 1874 at Berrima, NSW, the son of John Macrae and Elizabeth Ann Loseby.

He married Laura Mary Regan (1886-1988) at Sydney on 12 January 1910 and they had 7 sons and 2 daughters. He lived at 69 Edward Street, Redfern.

Macrae died at his Redfern residence on 11 June 1950, aged 75 years, and was buried in the Roman Catholic Section of Rookwood Cemetery.

Occupation & interests

A staunch unionist and Labour man Kenneth Macrae was anti-communist, Catholic and socially conservative. Kenneth John Alexander Macrae worked for the city council as a blacksmith where he sharpened the picks and shovels for 90 roadworkers.

Local government service

Kenneth John Alexander Macrae was an unsuccessful candidate in the 1917 elections, however, he was elected as an alderman for Golden Grove Ward in 1922.
