Family background
Samuel Partridge Hudson Cover was born 11 March 1855 in Sydney, the son of William Cover and his wife Eliza. He married Louisa Cansdell (1859-1936) 10 July 1879 at St Michael’s Church, Surry Hills, NSW, and they had two sons and a daughter. Cover died 8 October 1921 at Lewisham, NSW, aged 66 years, and he was interred in the Independent Section of Rookwood Cemetery. He left a Will and his estate and assets were valued at £17,061. Samuel Partridge Hudson Cover lived on Raglan Street, Darlington; also 437 Parramatta Road, Leichhardt.
Occupation & interests
Samuel Cover was a butcher. In 1893 he was fined 20s for using light weights (presumably in his butcher shop).
Community activity
Samuel Cover was the first President of the Darlington Branch of the Protestant Defence Association which was formed in 1902. He was a justice of the peace (JP)
Local government service
Samuel Cover was an alderman on Darlington Council for two terms: in 1897-1902 and 1904-13. He was mayor in 1901-02.
