Family background

Sidney Nolan was born on 5 July 1914 at Sydney, NSW, the son of Lionel Peynton Nolan and Lillian McLean Lamont. He married Verna Yvonne Joel at Randwick, NSW, on 29 December 1940 and they had 2 sons and 3 daughters. They divorced in 1964.

Nolan lived at 104 Lawson Street, Redfern. He died on 8 October 1980 at East Sydney, aged 66 years and he was cremated at the Eastern Suburbs Crematorium.

Occupation & interests

Sidney Nolan worked for the Merchant Navy and stood for election as a non-Labor representative.

Local government service

Sidney Nolan was an alderman on Redfern Council, representing Golden Grove Ward in 1941-44.
