William Becker was a woollen merchant. In 1930, Becker Brothers were operating an auction house at 395 Bourke Street but it is not known if this included William Becker. At this time, William Becker senior was living at Woodpark Road, Smithfield, and there was also a W Becker at 132 Queen Street, Concord.
Local government service
Becker was Alderman for Macquarie Ward, 2 December 1944 to 31 December 1948. He was a member and Vice-Chairman of the Finance Committee, 1945-48 and the City Planning and Improvements Committee, 1945-48.
