Family background

William Ellis Evans was born c1825 in Clynnog, Caernarvonshire, North Wales, son of Robert Evans and Jane. He married Mary Ann Biggs (1824-1904) at Bangor, Caernarvonshire, North Wales on 14 September 1852. Evans, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, arrived in Sydney, NSW on 20 October 1857 by the vessel ’Boanerges’. He died on 20 August 1890 at his residence 19 Carnavorn  Terrace, Buckland Street, Waterloo, NSW, aged 65 years and he was buried in the Old Church of England Section of Rookwood Cemetery. Evans left a Will and his estate and assets were assessed at £2,822. He lived at 19 Buckland Street, Waterloo.

Local government service

William Ellis Evans was an alderman on Waterloo Council in 1875-86. He was mayor in 1884.
