Family background
William John ‘Bill’ Hunt was born in 1946, the son of Harold and Myra Hunt. He died at Newtown on 1 August 1995, aged 49, survived by his partner Gary Simes. A memorial service was held at St Stephen’s Anglican Church, Newtown, before his cremation at the Northern Suburbs Crematorium.
Occupation & interests
Bill Hunt was employed as a research engineer. He lived in Newtown and as a gay Alderman campaigned for equal rights for homosexuals.
Local government service
Bill Hunt was Alderman for Alexandria Ward, from 14 April 1984 until 26 March 1987 when the Council was replaced by a three-member Commission. He was member and Chairman of the Works Committee in 1984, a member of the Building and Development (Major) Committee and the Building, Development (Ordinary) Committee, the City Planning Committee, the Properties and Housing Committee and the 1980 City of Sydney Plans Review Committee in 1984. Between 1984 and 1987 he was a member of the Building and Development Committee and the Properties, Housing and Works Committee. He was an Independent.
